Providing patients with safe, high-quality care will always be a cornerstone of our practice. Given the understandable concerns many people have about visiting doctors’ offices these days, we want to reassure you that we are routinely cleaning our clinic. One of the best ways we’ve found to do that is with UVC light.
What Is It?
UVC light is ultraviolet light with wavelengths between 200-280 nanometers. Light in the UVC wavelength is used for sterilizing surfaces, disinfecting air and destroying harmful microorganisms in food and water. In April 2020, the CDC tested UVC light against COVID-19 and recommended its use against COVID-19.
Safe and Effective
UVC light is highly safe for people-hospitals have been using it to disinfect their facilities for over 50 years. UVC is also considered safe for the environment. UVC sterilizer box products do not produce ozone and are hypoallergenic.
The International Ultraviolet Association cites UV light as a disinfection method that has contributed to clean water and clean air for many decades.
How We Use UVC Light
Dr. Paul takes the UVC light and puts it in one of our small rooms and the light cleans the space in just five minutes. Our office space is less than 1,000 square feet (we have several small rooms) and we can clear out 800 square feet of any airborne viruses in just 60 minutes.
When Dr. Paul comes in and leaves each day, he runs the UVC light.
Using UVC light to disinfect our practice daily is one of the ways we want to ensure our patients stay safe during the pandemic.
